Goodbye Monroe Tigers!
Best of luck to you in your new schools...
James Monroe School opened its doors in the fall of 1953. Since this time sixty years ago there have been changes at the school, including changing from an elementary school to a K-8 School. One thing will be different though next fall as Monroe will not have eager and enthusiastic students coming into its classrooms. Our magical campus in a nice quiet residential area of Lakewood will no longer be operating as a school.
It has been a pleasure to serve as the principal at Monroe the past three years. I have become very fond of the Monroe students, staff and parents. Monroe has been more than just a school to many of us. You feel the Aloha Spirit from the ladies who are in the office, the cafeteria workers, the custodial staff, the recreation staff, the WRAP Program, and one of the most dedicated and professional group of teachers and support staff. The past few years the PTSA and volunteers at the school have helped to create a positive school climate for the students. Everyday I come to work, I marvel at this small community that works so well together with a mission of providing an outstanding educational experience for the students at Monroe.
The closing of our school is a sad time, but I want us all to celebrate what a treasure Monroe has been the past sixty years. Please join us for the Monroe Ohana Aloha Luau on Friday, June 7th from 4:00 to 6:00. There will be good food, entertainment , and outstanding company to celebrate our school.
Mahalo to all the Monroe Ohana for your dedication and support of our school and students through the years. Hopefully one day this magical school will open its doors again to welcome a new generation of eager enthusiastic students.
With my warmest Aloha,
